Here at Iceland Family Aid we foresee a difficult holiday season. Funds are limited, grants from the public sector don’t get us very far and the need for food donations this holiday is more than anticipated.
We have a large number of people, families, single parents, elderly, disabled, immigrants, low-income people etc. that are unable to make ends meet.
We have done our best to provide food for this group every month, both fresh, as well as many companies have, in light of increased awareness about food waste, given us food nearing its expiration date and/or food that can still be used past it.
The holiday approaches and many in these groups do not expect to celebrate it with some dignity, or at all.
Last year, we assisted around 2000 people during the holiday, and we are not expecting less this year considering inquiries that started a bit earlier this year.
Funds are limited though, and unfortunately we expect to have to put a roof on how many we can assist this year, unless the community comes together and lends a helping hand.
This is why we have launched an expedited fundraising campaign here on our website. Every krona matters, and all funds donated go directly towards the purchase of food.
